Peace Pillar

living in alignment with truth

What is Peace and Why is it so Important?

Peace is a state of mind and heart that comes from just being, not doing, not striving.  It can be described as “tending the garden, not toiling in the garden.”  It is not affected by circumstances.  It is deep. It is rooted in the security of knowing who you really are, why you are here, and then just being who God made you to be, knowing in your heart that your provision and protection come from God, not from our own striving and manipulating of our circumstances and fellow human beings. For our physical and mental functions of the body to operate normally, we cannot be in a constant state of discontentment, worry, anxiety, and stress.

Cells cannot function optimally in an environment of chronic stress.

Peace is a State of Mind... and Brain

The brain and nerves coming from the brain control all the cells of the body.  This command and control system can operate in either sympathetic mode (fight or flight/stress) or parasympathetic mode (rest and digest/peace).

Long-term or repetitive fight-or-flight mode compromises three main systems in the body essential for health: the immune system, digestive system and hormone system.

Things You Can do To Harness Inner Peace

Throughout the day, your baseline nervous system function should be dominated by parasympathetic peace mode. But, occasional challenges via exercise, environmental “stressors” found in toxins and germs that turn on the sympathetic system for short bursts are actually beneficial and help keep your body primed and ready to “fight” when needed.

Stress management vs. resolution

Stress management

  • Breathe Deeply

Breathing slowly tells your body it's in a safe environment and allows your nervous system to relax. If there is a simple and quick technique to pull your body off the fight or flight mode, it's breathing deeply and slowly.

  • Practice peace

There are some activities that activate your parasympathetic system such as prayer and meditation, exposure to nature (sunshine, the ground, green spaces, the sounds of nature like birds, animals and water).

Resolution

  • Identify your limiting beliefs

We all have thoughts or beliefs about ourselves influenced by our upbringing and culture. Some of these are false beliefs. Identify them and replace them with the truth.

  • Know Your Identity

If you don’t know who you are and where you came from, it will be impossible to have true peace. You are not a random result of a chemical accident but an individual created by a loving God for a specific purpose.

  • Know Why Are You here

You were created and are here as an ambassadorial representative, here to represent and put on display the character and nature of your Creator. That character and nature is love.

  • Follow Your Path

There is a specific destiny or calling on your life put there by God, and it can’t be removed from you. When you are walking that out, trusting in God for your provision and protection, and not striving in your own strength, tending not toiling, then peace will attend you.

“You can’t eat, exercise and hydrate yourself into health if you are in a constant state of fight or flight.”

Trillions of cells die every day. You make new ones every day. The raw materials to make new cells come from our food. High-quality, nutrient-dense food will provide the raw materials to make new cells that work right.

Health benefits of hydration

Hydration

You are one big bag of water. In fact, over 90% of the molecules in your body are H2O. Chronically dehydrated cells can’t function optimally.

Health benefits of running

Movement

Sitting is the new smoking. Sitting uninterrupted for hours increases your risk of cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s and almost all modern, western diseases…..even if you hit the gym at the end of the day.
